Special focus on commercial real estate transactions with an emphasis on real estate private equity

Graduate of the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law

Michael Berman’s practice focuses on the representation of debt funds, lending institutions, private equity funds, developers, investors, and operators in a variety of commercial real estate transactions with a heavy emphasis on real estate private equity. His practice includes both debt and equity representations including acquisitions, dispositions, senior and subordinate financings, joint ventures, net lease, sale‑leaseback, build-to-suit and convertible debt transactions for a variety of asset classes, including hotels, offices, industrial, retail, multifamily, condominiums, and specialty projects.

Berman has significant experience in the structuring and closing of mortgage loan transactions for securitization in the capital markets and/or participation in secondary market transactions, as well as conventional permanent, construction, acquisition, and bridge financings, syndications, and participation loans including A/B structures, mezzanine loans, credit tenant loans, and the acquisition and disposition of mortgage loans. Berman has also represented a variety of clients in connection with loan workouts and restructurings, discounted pay-offs, deed‑in‑lieu transactions, and foreclosures.

These are some of the reasons that we named Berman to our Washington, DC grouping of Lawyers in Real Estate. These are real estate attorneys who have distinguished themselves in both their practice and the larger community.

About Lisa McDuffie

Lisa McDuffie arrives at ConnectCRE via REALTOR® world, where she served for nearly two decades as communications director for one of the nation’s largest REALTOR® organizations. She supported two membership-elected presidents who were commercial real estate practitioners, and managed the communications initiatives of the organization’s commercial special interest group. When not following the latest commercial real estate news, Lisa is zeroed in on her charismatic off-the-track thoroughbred as she makes the transition from an utterly failed racehorse to a lovely show hunter.
