Cara Nelson represents pension funds, investment advisors and other institutional real estate funds and family offices in acquisitions, sales, joint ventures and financings of all asset types. She has conducted significant representation of foreign pension funds in complex acquisitions and joint venture negotiations with both domestic and foreign joint venture partners for the purpose of investing in class A office, multifamily, industrial and life science assets throughout the US.
Among her transactions are the following:
- Representing Oxford Properties Group in its $151-million acquisition of two life sciences projects in the greater Boston area and a $60.2-million loan secured by one of the assets.
- Representing Oxford Properties Group in its acquisition of a 136,000-square-foot office building in Seattle for $119.1 million.
- Representing Safanad Inc. in a complex, multi-tiered joint venture. An entity owned by the tiers in the joint venture is the long-term ground tenant of property on 28th Street in New York City, and construction of a 480-unit multifamily apartment building commenced in fall 2020. The transaction involved closing a $173-million construction loan.
- Representing Berkshire Residential Investments in more than $300 million of investments involving the acquisition of multifamily apartment communities and joint ventures to develop senior housing facilities.
Nelson is past president of CREW Boston, and currently serves on the board of directors of Heading Home, Inc., a Boston-based non-profit serving homeless and formerly homeless families and individuals.
Within DLA Piper, Nelson was an active participant on the Leadership Alliance for Women Steering Committee for several years, and still serves as a mentor to and supporter of many of DLA Piper’s women lawyers.
