She works hard to continue to push the edge on innovative solutions for cities while teaching the next generation of tech talent about how to build leadership capacity and enact positive change

Lau served as a visiting professor at the University of Bedfordshire and visiting critic at London Metropolitan University, University of Texas at Austin and University of Texas at Arlington

She taught UTA’s Future of Hypermobility Course in Spring 2019 and as an adjunct professor at SMU, her class focused on smart and green infrastructure

The future is faster, smarter and better, and Tatum Lau is keeping AECOM at the forefront of the industry. Lau, an AECOM senior urban designer since June 2017, has a proven track record of leadership with clients, peers and the community. She is an expert on urban resilience, transportation and master planning, most recently serving as lead consultant for Dallas 100 Resilient Cities Plan and the Texas Hyperloop Plan, which implements a never-before 700 mph technology across the state. Lau is also working on Dallas’s first comprehensive environmental and climate action plan, a roadmap that outlines the specific activities the city can undertake to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve environmental quality in the city.

Lau is a role model for other young professionals. Not only is she changing the future of Dallas, making infrastructure and decision making more efficient, improving environmental performance and adaptability while reducing full life-cycle cost for infrastructure,

Lau trained in architecture, planning and urban design in South Africa and the U.K. Her career started in Johannesburg, where she won an award for the design of a community center and nursery school for children with HIV. In London, she focused on the sustainable development of affordable housing while also earning her M.A. in architecture of rapid change and scarce resources.

These are just a few of the reasons we chose Lau as one of the Texas 2021 Women in Real Estate Award winners. Connect CRE’s Women in Real Estate Awards honor the achievements and inspirational stories of women who have reached respected positions of leadership and play key mentorship roles for others.
