Thomas Townsend

In 2014, Thomas Townsend was a graduate student at the University of Houston’s Bauer College of Business working toward a certificate in real estate. During the interview with Richland, he impressed with his intellect and was offered an internship. He showed incredible potential and a willingness to learn.  His internship continued until his graduation in May 2015. Townsend graduated with his MBA and he was offered a full-time analyst position. He learned all aspects of running a property as well as purchasing, selling and the due diligence process, and his responsibilities increased.

Following his two years with Richland, Townsend expressed an interest in relocating to Denver and he interviewed with several companies. He felt none of the positions were ultimately the right fit for his experience, and returned to Houston. Townsend was then offered a promotion at The Richland Companies and he accepted. It has been one of the best business decisions the firm has made. Townsend now serves as Richland’s vice president of asset management and is well respected by staff and industry peers. His demeanor, work ethic and consistent results all epitomize the word professional. 

Townsend continues to pay it forward by mentoring other UH graduate students pursuing careers in real estate. He mentors a graduate student intern each semester and understands the importance of guiding and motivating students as their careers commence. While a graduate student, Townsend was selected and served as president of the UH Real Estate Club.  Townsend is a member of CCIM and supports local Houston charities including Houston Children’s Charity and CAP Citizens for Animal Protection.
